MS in Human Factors: Thesis Requirements
The Master's thesis must make an original contribution to the science of human factors and involve the aggregation and interpretation of data. Data can be derived from a variety of sources such as:
- performance measures from laboratory experiments,
- accident/incident analysis,
- automatically collected data from operational systems, or
- meta-analyses of data reported in previous research.
Each student must select a master's thesis advisor, who is an AHFD faculty member (including 0 time). A second reader for the master's thesis can be any member of the Graduate faculty within the University. However, at least one member of this committee (advisor or second reader) must have at least a 25% appointment within the Human Factors Division.
At some point following collection of the master's thesis data, and preferably after a written thesis draft is completed, the student will present the thesis research to the Division Faculty in an oral presentation.
The Graduate coordinator will assure that the written thesis document
adheres to graduate college requirements. The AHFD Division head will
read the thesis for approval once the advisor and second reader have approved
it, at which time it will be submitted to the Graduate College.
