Dr. Terry von Thaden Serves as Expert on Panel Addressing Runway and Ramp Safety Practices

Dr. Terry von Thaden was recently chosen by the National Academy of Sciences as part of an expert panel to advise the Government Accountability Office in response to a Congressional inquiry on measures to improve runway and ramp safety. Safety issues included the effectiveness of measures that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) uses to address runway and ramp safety problems such as runway incursions and overruns and ramp accidents, including the use of technology; research and testing of technology that could be deployed in the future to improve runway and ramp safety as well as human factors and information research; and runway and ramp safety practices overseas that could be instructive for the FAA to use at U.S. commercial airports. Update November 2007- The final GAO report is available for download here: http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d0829.pd
